Where Does Amber Come From?

There's a short answer, and there's a long answer. Let's start with the short answer: Amber is a fossilized tree resin. It comes from trees, and then gets buried underground, and fossilized. And then someone digs it up, polishes it, and that's what you see on my website! The most famous location that Amber comes from is The Baltic region. That means countries around the Baltic Sea, in Northeastern Europe. Countries like Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Estonia, basically anywhere that borders the Baltic Sea! Often times it is found on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and often times it is dug up from underground. There are many different large and small mining operations to get amber out of the baltic area. Some are legal, and some are illegal. Some are destructive, some are not destructive. Now here's The long answer: Amber comes from trees, but it comes from many different countries around the world, and it comes in many different qualities and forms! And different ages! Generally, the older the amber, the better. Did you know that the country Burma/Myanmar has Amber that is dated back to 100 Million Years old? That's older than the Baltic Amber! Baltic Amber is only approximately 48 Million Years Old. Burmese/Myanmar Amber, which is 100 Million Years Old, dates back to the age of the Dinosaurs. Which means that the insects we find in Burmese Amber were flying around Dinosaurs! Remember the plot of the movie Jurassic Park? Where they have a mosquito in amber, and the blood that mosquito has inside of it is from a Dinosaur? That's actually possible! And what's better, is that we have insects in Burmese Amber available in our shop! They will be coming soon to the site! Also, there are amazing amber deposits much closer to the United States that you might think! Surprisingly, both Mexico and The Dominican Republic both have large Amber deposits with high quality material! Including amazing insects in amber! The Dominican Republic amber is known for having large, clear insect fossils that are very popular to customers.

There are a number of other countries with large, important amber deposits. Those included Indonesia, Colombia, Alaska, and more. I hope you found this post informative on amber! Anything we speak of is either available for sale on the site, or will be available soon!
